BrightRoll Appoints Andy Mitchell to Lead European Operations

Digital advertising veteran joins leading programmatic video ad platform as managing director to drive accelerated growth in the region

SAN FRANCISCO and LONDON – BrightRoll, the only independent and unified programmatic video advertising platform, today announced the expansion of its executive team with the appointment of Andy Mitchell as managing director of European operations. In this role, Mitchell is responsible for leading sales and business strategy to drive the adoption of programmatic video in the European market.

BrightRoll is making investments to expand its operations in Europe and meet growing demand for programmatic video platforms. Mitchell brings over 20 years of digital media and advertising technology experience to BrightRoll and is focused on driving transparent financial efficiency, agile and iterative product deployment and simple, scalable ease of trade. He leads a growing team out of the company’s European headquarters in London.

The use of programmatic technology, including real-time bidding (RTB), to buy digital video advertising is experiencing rapid growth in Europe. According to IHS, research partner of IAB Europe, programmatic video ad buying across the “big five” European markets (UK, France, Spain, Germany and Italy) will grow an average of 77 percent a year and be worth an estimated €627 million by 2017.

Mitchell has held a number of leadership positions working with brands, agencies, agency trading desks (ATDs), demand-side platforms (DSPs), ad tech companies and the publisher market in Europe. Most recently, he served as Chief Operating Officer at Rightster, and prior to that, spent six years as managing director at ANyMedia, the advertising network and technology division of Daily Mail and General Trust (DMGT). In this role, Mitchell was instrumental in the commercial success of Mail Online through the development of digital advertising teams and implementation of programmatic initiatives. Previous experience includes roles as media development director at Panasonic and development director at Ogilvy & Mather. Mitchell also served as managing director at DoubleClick UK, where he was responsible for growing the team from five to 140 employees, which led to success in securing deals with some of the most prominent brands in Europe.
