CEA Announced Groundbreaking New Book at CES Unveiled New York

Digital Destiny arrives January 2015, to answer, “What happens when everything is digital?”

CES Unveiled NEW YORK 2014

NEW YORK – The Consumer Electronics Association (CEA)® announced the forthcoming release of its new book, Digital Destiny: How the New Age of Data Will Transform the Way We Work, Live, and Communicate (Regnery Publishing), on sale January 12, 2015. In this provocative new book, author Shawn DuBravac, Ph.D., CEA’s Chief Economist, explains why the world’s mass adoption of digital technologies portends the beginning of a new era for humanity, one that will rival the invention of the printing press for its transformational effects on every person, country and institution in the world.

“Shawn DuBravac has written a highly intelligent and fair interpretation of the networked future. This is exactly the kind of nuanced and well-informed analysis of our big data world which will make this future more inhabitable. Strongly recommended.”

Digital Destiny will provide readers with a sneak peek at mankind’s future,” said Gary Shapiro, president and CEO, CEA. “Drawing on Shawn’s more than 15 years examining trends in the consumer technology industry, Digital Destiny doesn’t just predict future technologies or trends; it unveils a future in which digital data will solve many of humanity’s most ancient problems, create new challenges and transform life as we know it.”

“Most consumers perceive the digital age as simply the accumulation of sleeker and more powerful gadgets,” said Dr. DuBravac. “My aim is to answer the question, ‘What happens when everything is digital?’ I hope to broaden readers’ views to include an understanding that in the not-so-distant future mankind will have thoroughly replaced analog for digital in every corner of our lives, and as a result everything from business to health care to travel and down to the foundation of culture itself is changed.”

In Digital Destiny, readers will discover a world where the mass adoption of driverless cars, powered by highly-developed sensors, will save the lives of thousands of Americans each year, and perhaps hundreds of thousands more around the planet. They will see how millennia-old barriers, such as those that force us to live in a certain city, take a certain job, or purchase certain items, will give way to a world that caters to individual desires and needs. Our digital future is a world where massive inefficiencies, such as the supply chains in Africa that allow food to rot before it can feed the hungry, will give way to sustainable communities. It’s a world where digital mechanisms will take over more and more of our lives, but where an individual will have more freedom in action, work, health and pursuits than ever before.

Digital Destiny is the third book released by CEA, following the New York Times best-sellers The Comeback: How Innovation Will Restore the American Dream (Beaufort, 2011) and Ninja Innovation: The Ten Killer Strategies of the World’s Most Successful Businesses (Harper Collins, 2013), both written by Shapiro. Digital Destiny continues the broad themes of CEA’s first two books by exploring the role of innovation in driving a variety of transformative technologies and technology trends.

Digital Destiny was just one of the exciting announcements at this year’s CES Unveiled New York, which provides a preview of the year’s most innovative products and technologies just two months before the 2015 International CES® – where the book will be available for sale in Gary’s Book Club in the Grand Lobby. CES Unveiled New York, an annual showcase and networking event, draws dozens of exhibitors and more than 300 media and attendees.

What Others are Saying About Digital Destiny

“As I started reading Shawn’s book, I thought it overly optimistic, but he provides many current, real-world examples of how connectivity and online services are changing our lives today, let alone tomorrow. Very thought-provoking and, for me, cautionary.” – Vint Cerf, Internet pioneer and Chief Internet Evangelist for Google

“DuBravac’s message is clear: The digital revolution will profoundly change how we communicate with one another and with the world around us. Digital Destiny explores how sensor-driven data will unlock potential for new business and industry in ways never before imaginable.” – Tyler Cowen, New York Times columnist and professor of economics

“Shawn DuBravac has written a highly intelligent and fair interpretation of the networked future. This is exactly the kind of nuanced and well-informed analysis of our big data world which will make this future more inhabitable. Strongly recommended.” – Andrew Keen, Internet entrepreneur and tech commentator
