- boomApp has pioneered the first technology that enables AR (Augmented Reality) for videos
- Media broadcast companies such as Fox are jumping onto this new technology to be able to engage their viewers with their online content
- The app also enables consumers to scan from their smartphone any recent movie trailer and be instantly redirected to relevant online content
London: Launching earlier this year, the startup boomApp has pioneered the first technology that enables AR (Augmented Reality) for videos. It has the capabilities to recognise millions of videos in under five seconds through a simple scan from the boomApp mobile application.
Imagine watching a film, video or movie trailer and being able to interact with it by using your smartphone to scan the content and find out additional information. This is now possible, and achievable, in under 5 seconds with boomApp’s innovative technology.
This technology has gained much attention from media broadcast companies wishing to engage their viewers as it provides them with new and innovative ways to enhance the viewer experience and generate traffic to their online content. To further support the launch of this new technology boomApp is working with Fox in Portugal where viewers will be able to use the boomApp mobile application to easily engage with the programs and discover additional content on the titles they enjoy.
This is the first time, globally, that a television network has integrated such a technology that enables video recognition of its content – creating direct interactions between traditional media and online.
With a database of over 1000 movie trailers, past and present, users of boomApp can scan video and in seconds discover additional content online – whether it be added information on the actors, behind the scenes extras, or where the movie may be screening. The database is updated and refreshed every month with the latest trailers and blockbusters enabling consumers to scan any recent movie and access additional content.
The boomApp technology is already being used for advertising purposes, creating new interactions between brands and consumers.
“Virtual Reality and Augmented Reality is providing brands with innovative ways to interact with their customers and our technology enables a unique and immediate interaction between the brand and the consumer,” says Joao da Maia Jorge, co-founder and CEO of boomApp. He adds: “This represents an opportunity for brands to further engage with, and gain insights instantly and directly from consumers, by connecting their TV adverts, films to specific online content through a simple scan.”
Currently, consumers can download the app from the App Store or the Play Store

boomApp, the tech startup has developed the first technology worldwide to enable Augmented Reality functionalities for traditional videos. Its unique proprietary algorithm can search and find a video within a database of millions of videos to then provide results in less than 5 seconds.
