HLS AD Insertion Now Available on Android Through mDialog and VisualOn Partnership

TORONTO & SANTA CLARA, Calif. – mDialog, the leader in video stream management on connected devices, and VisualOn, a multimedia software company that enables high-quality video and audio across connected devices, today announced a partnership to bring dynamic ad insertion to Android devices.

mDialog and VisualOn now offer media companies the ability to monetize HTTP Live Streaming (HLS), an HTTP-based media streaming communication protocol, on Android devices by seamlessly inserting ads into live and on-demand programming. The solution uses the same encoding processes and workflows as HLS streams on iPhone, iPad, Xbox, Roku, and other devices and platforms.

Integrating the mDialog Smart Stream Platform with VisualOn’s mediaplayer allows content providers to extend their Linear, Live and VOD ad supported programming to Android devices using their existing HLS based video delivery workflow. This means content providers can increase their audience without the associated impact and costs of addressing a new connected device.

“This is great news for media companies that currently deliver HLS video content across devices like iOS, Roku and Xbox and would like to monetize these streams across Android devices as well,” said Greg Philpott, Founder and CEO of mDialog. “As industry leaders, we’re excited to bring a complete Android video solution to market.”

“VisualOn and mDialog are working together to solve a key industry hurdle – a seamless, effective media solution that integrates ad technology and scales across connected devices,” said Yang Cai, CEO of VisualOn, Inc. “Android represents a significant portion of the device ecosystem and we’re focused on adding additional monetization options for our customers.”

The partnership was announced ahead of IBC 2012, the premiere conference for professionals engaged in the creation, management and delivery of electronic media and entertainment content worldwide, taking place September 6 – 11 in Amsterdam.

To learn more, mDialog will be located in booth #362 in the IBC Connected World Hall (Hall 14), where executives will be available to discuss the new technology.
