The event, called “Hack the Trackers,” is expected to draw some of the top developers from around the US. It will take place on Saturday, November 9, 2013, from 9:00 AM – 8:00 PM at the We Work Lounge – 154 Grand Street – New York, NY 10013.
“The way data has been spurring innovation and creating new business models has captured the imagination of the media and spurred a lot of fear and loathing of the government, not to mention online marketers,” said Andy Kahl, Director, Data Analysis at Evidon. “Some think that data collection and harvesting is also quickly stripping away something most of us have always considered to be an essential societal right: privacy. Dozens of talented developers will gather in Soho for this hackathon. At the end of the event Ghostery’s judges, including privacy expert Ashkan Soltani, Vivian Chang of Tapad – one of the most respected engineers in the industry – and Kate Kaye, the editor of DataWorks for Advertising Age, among others, will choose three finalists who will then have a few weeks to refine their idea. The finalists will then be put to an online vote where one winning team will be selected. That winning team will select two members to travel to the South by Southwest festival in Austin in March of 2014 and showcase their product alongside the Ghostery team at the tradeshow, where thousands of technologists, professionals and media will see it.
