REDWOOD CITY, Calif. and Tokyo – Turn (www.turn.com), the cloud marketing platform, has launched its Japan operations with the appointment of Akito Sato as country manager – along with a team of account managers – to support the company’s commitment to the Japan market. Sato is a seasoned sales and business development executive who launched Google’s programmatic advertising business in Japan. He will report to Cindy Deng, managing director, Asia-Pacific, Turn.

Market forecaster IDC has projected that real-time bidding (RTB) display ad spending will reach $612 million in Japan in 2014.

Turn Japan is already well-staffed at launch, with an account management and client service team building a portfolio of customer relationships and partnerships with leading local and global inventory and data providers, including Peer 39 and Proximic. Sato will continue to build out the local team in the next few months, adding sales engineers, account managers and business development executives. Turn has expanded rapidly in the region, adding operations in Hong Kong, Singapore and Australia within the past year to service more than 50 customers in the region.

Sato was formerly strategic business development manager at Google Japan, where he launched DoubleClick Ad Exchange, DoubleClick Search and DoubleClick Bid Manager. Prior to that he held sales and business development leadership positions at Excite Japan with a focus on programmatic and mobile monetization strategies. Over his tenure at Excite and Google, he developed a portfolio with more than $70 million in revenue.
