BlogHer’s Erin Kotecki Vest to Keynote Conference for Women Engaging in Social Media
BOULDER, Colo. – Chicks Who Click, a conference and networking event for women engaging in social media, will take place in Kansas City May 16.
Chicks Who Click is a series of conferences, launched earlier this year in Boulder, Colo., striving to build a community of like-minded women using social media to further collaborate, listen, learn and experiment with new media tools that will enhance their careers and personal networks.
The one-day conference will take place Saturday, May 16, at Sheraton Suites Country Club (770 West 47th Street, Kansas City, MO). In addition, conference registration will also include a Friday night networking session, Chicks Who Mix, at Grand Falloon (608 Ward Parkway, Kansas City, MO) and a Saturday cocktail party Brio (502 Nichols Road, Kansas City, MO).
“We’ve seen a real craving for women to have face-to-face time with other women and ‘geek out’ in a supportive and collaborative environment, which is what Chicks Who Click accomplishes,” said Denise Smith, Metzger Associates’ director of events and the founder of Chicks Who Click.
The keynote speaker is the prolific Erin Kotecki Vest, the director of special projects for BlogHer, Inc. and a renowned blogger at QueenofSpainblog.com. Kotecki Vest will discuss the shift from the one-way “mainstream media” to today’s social media conversations. There have been plenty of hits and misses in the shift, and Erin will talk about some favorites of each — and what makes each a hit or a miss.
“Like BlogHer’s conferences, Chicks Who Click is another fantastic opportunity for women to network and gain more exposure to and expertise in social media,” said Kotecki Vest.
In addition to Kotecki Vest, the Kansas City Chicks Who Click has 12 speakers including Zena Weist, digital practitioner and social media strategist at EMBARQ; Tara Anderson, marketing manager for Lijit Networks; and an impressive line-up of local social media strategists. One of the goals of each of these conferences is to highlight local voices while also bringing in national speakers.
Event sponsors include WalMart, Metzger Associates, Lijit, Crocs and Barkley Interactive.
Cost for the entire conference weekend including all networking events and the Saturday evening cocktail party is $220, (early bird pricing until May 1, 2009) and $250 after May 1. Attendees who may need the “Social Media 101” track on Friday afternoon for $59. Participants may choose to attend one or both tracks. Registration information may be found at http://www.chickswhoclick.net or by calling (720) 833-5923.
