Goo Technologies Breaks Into Advertising with World’s First WebGL-Powered Online Ad

Goo Create now enables interactive production of Rich 3D Ads

STOCKHOLM – Goo Technologies, the leader in HTML5 high-end graphics for games and interactive visualizations on the web and the company behind the Goo Engine®, announced that Goo Create, the first professional platform for high-end web graphics, will now support the development of Rich 3D Ads, powered by HTML5 and WebGL. Goo Create for Ads is the only ad creation tool capable of providing individual designers with the power to develop advanced, interactive content through a simple yet powerful interface.

“Our experience in the games industry has shaped our perspective of the web as a rich and interactive medium, and we think ads should be viewed in the same way”

Goo is already showcasing the world’s first WebGL-powered online advertisement for an online casino, BlingCity, which appears on the homepage of Aftonbladet, Sweden’s largest newspaper and one of the country’s most visited websites. BlingCity’s full display ad, built in Goo Create, features an interactive fly through of BlingCity and appears along the entire perimeter of the Aftonbladet front page.

“It is once again impressive to see how Sweden keeps on delivering cool new products that truly will revolutionize how and where we will consume media,” said Johan Åsén, Product Director for Schibsted, the publisher that owns Aftonbladet. “For us as a publisher it was not only fun to be first, it was also important that this product makes it possible for us to improve KPIs and increase engagement for our advertisers. And that is exactly what Goo Create for Ads does!”

Online advertisers have traditionally struggled with low engagement, banner blindness, and compatibility issues. WebGL, a web technology that enables hardware-accelerated graphics in compatible browsers without the use of plugins, offers the industry a solution to those issues through improved graphics and increased interactivity. The technology is quickly gaining momentum, with WebGL now reaching 75 percent of browsers and more devices than Flash.

“As a new highly innovative online casino, we needed an edge in a competitive market,” said Daniel Sahlin, CEO at BlingCity. “Building this ad on Goo’s technology gave BlingCity the opportunity to show users what to expect in the casino through our innovative ad campaign – visual storytelling!”

By leveraging HTML5 and WebGL in Goo Create for Ads, Goo Technologies offers higher engagement and better KPIs for the ads being produced on its platform. Starting today, Goo Create can be used to produce Rich 3D Ads as well as to serve ad campaigns with optimized 3D ads asset delivery in Goo’s ad serving and CDN network. Goo Create will even be free to use for a limited period of time.

“Our recent research revealed a serious disconnect between advertisers and their audience,” said Marcus Krüger, founder and executive chairman of Goo Technologies. “That fueled our imagination and drove us to develop something truly unique in the advertising industry – Goo Create for Ads.”

“Our experience in the games industry has shaped our perspective of the web as a rich and interactive medium, and we think ads should be viewed in the same way,” said Ola de Freitas, founder and CEO of Goo Technologies. ”We set out to make HTML5 and WebGL the standard for Rich 3D Ads, and we’re thrilled with the outcome.”

Goo Create, now in open beta, empowers people to create interactive, rich web graphics with unprecedented smoothness and sophistication. It is fully cloud-based and all runs through a browser. Professional, high-end 3D visualizations, including ads, can finally be created and published online using HTML5. It can all be achieved without any downloads or plug-ins or the use of a single line of code, and all accessible on any device supporting WebGL and HTML5.

The launch of Goo Create for Ads follows a recent survey from the company, conducted online by Harris Interactive, which found that 82 percent of Americans ignore online ads, ahead of television (37 percent), radio (36 percent), and newspaper ads (35 percent). Forty-two percent said interactive ads are the most engaging, citing that they look more interesting (20 percent), don’t feel like an ad at all (15 percent), and look new and high tech (12 percent). When asked what improvements would make them pay more attention to online ads, 19 percent suggested adding amazing graphics.
