DALLAS – ad:tech New York 2014, the longest-running digital marketing event in the industry, has announced the closing keynote session “Demystifying ‘Viralness’” featuring five prominent names in the business world: Dr. Jonah Berger, author of Contagious: Why Things Catch On; Marshall Ball, director of interactive strategy at Wieden+Kennedy; Naama Bloom, CEO & founder of HelloFlo; Dawn Wayt, director of marketing & head of social media for American Greetings; and Chris Field, executive director of Mercy Project. Dr. Berger will share his groundbreaking research on “viralness” as well as the six basic principles that drive content to trend. Then, the creators of three viral video campaigns– HelloFlo’s “First Moon Party,” American Greetings’ “World’s Toughest Job” and Wieden+Kennedy’s Old Spice campaign will discuss the process behind creating these iconic, viral videos. The panel will also look at how Mercy Project created a viral hashtag and the impact it has made on their brand.

  • Dr. Jonah Berger is a marketing professor at the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania and has spent the last decade studying how social influence works and how it drives products and ideas to catch on.
  • Marshall Ball, director of interactive strategy at Wieden+Kennedy, has worked on iconic brands such as Nike, ESPN, Gap, Electronic Arts and Heineken. Throughout his career he has applied his experience in communications planning, digital brand development and analytics to creative business insights and solutions for his clients.
  • Naama Bloom, CEO & founder of HelloFlo, is a 15+ year marketing leader with a significant track record of building high-performing teams, launching and managing brands, customer acquisition, PR and direct marketing. In 2013, she launched HelloFlo with the goal of empowering women and girls to manage and celebrate their physical and emotional changes.
  • Dawn Wayt, director of marketing & head of social media for American Greetings, leads social media and content marketing across a family of brands including American Greetings, Cardstore, justWink, Blue Mountain and more. Wayt developed the strategy, approach, tools, budget, roles, goals, best practices, project plan and the team that has generated significant year-over-year growth and fan engagement of the aforementioned brands.
  • Chris Field, executive director & founder of non-profit Mercy Project, works in Ghana, West Africa to rescue children from child slavery by way of economic empowerment and sustainability in the villages who own the children. In that same spirit of community, Field also created the hashtag and movement, #RunForBoston, which reached more than 26 million people worldwide within 48 hours of the Boston Marathon bombings.
