Twelve Leading Pro-Female Ad Campaigns, From Always #LikeAGirl to Women on 20s, Are in the Running to Win By Popular Vote
The Winning Campaigns will be Celebrated at #BlogHer15: Experts Among Us in July in NYC
NEW YORK – SheKnows Media, the number-one women’s lifestyle digital media company1 with more than 80 million unique visitors per month2 and 162 million social media fans and followers, announced the 12 brands whose pro-female advertising campaigns made the finalist round in the 2015 #Femvertising Awards.
Increasingly, ads that objectify women and feed into their insecurities are coming under fire. For that reason, SheKnows Media launched the #Femvertising Awards to pay tribute to advertising campaigns that reject unattainable beauty standards and gender stereotypes.
SheKnows Media elevates advertising culture with the launch of the Femvertising Awards. This award honors brand advertising that delivers pro-female messages and images, pushing the boundaries of traditional advertising and busting stereotypes, while strengthening the brand. The final phase of the process invites the public to vote for their favorite campaigns across the four Femvertising categories – Humor, Inspiring, Next Generation and Social Impact – by going to femvertisingawards.com. Individuals can vote once per day until 11:59 p.m. Eastern on June 19.
A diverse and high-profile panel of 16 judges hailing from organizations including the Clinton Foundation’s No Ceilings initiative, The Representation Project, Adweek, Pinterest, One Kings Lane, MSNBC, Huffington Post and Forbes determined this year’s #Femvertising Awards finalists, which include:
- Cardstore by American Greetings: #WorldsToughestJob (Nominated by Sway Group)
- HelloFlo: First Moon Party
- Sport England: This Girl Can
- Clif Bar & Company: LUNAFEST
- L’Oréal Paris: Women of Worth (Nominated by TogoRun & FleishmanHillard)
- RAM Trucks: Courage Inside (Nominated by The Richards Group)
- Always: #LikeAGirl (Nominated by MSLGROUP)
- Google: Made With Code (Nominated by Red & Co.)
- Microsoft: Girls Do Science
In addition to voting for their favorite campaigns across the four award categories, individuals have the opportunity to submit the name of an empowering pro-female ad that may or may not be in the running via the People’s Choice award.
The #Femvertising Awards will also give children a voice since advertising that portrays women has a lasting impact on the next generation. Teens and tweens who belong to Hatch, SheKnows Media’s innovative digital storytelling and media literacy program for kids, and Hatch-affiliated programs will honor an award finalist whose campaign most inspires them.
“There is a strong and growing focus on the way that women and girls are portrayed in advertising, which has always played a critical role in shaping the way society thinks about gender,” said Samantha Skey, SheKnows Media’s Chief Revenue and Marketing Officer. “Increasingly, ads that objectify women and feed into their insecurities are coming under fire. For that reason, SheKnows Media launched the #Femvertising Awards to pay tribute to advertising campaigns that reject unattainable beauty standards and gender stereotypes.”
Skey added, “Congratulations to each of one of the top 12 #Femvertising Awards finalists – we are thrilled to feature such a powerful, conversation-igniting roster of campaigns that are proving that doing right by women and girls can be good for brand awareness and the bottom line.”
The winning ad campaigns plus the People’s Choice and Hatch awards will be revealed during the hallmark Voices of the Year celebration at #BlogHer15: Experts Among Us, the world’s largest celebration of women content creators. More than 3,500 social media influencers, content creators, entrepreneurs, brand executives and thought leaders are expected to attend the event that is taking place July 16-18 in New York City.
