EDAA Trust Seal: nugg.ad Is Recognized for Its Exemplary Practice within Online Behavioral Advertising

• ePrivacyconsult awards nugg.ad the EDAA Trust Seal
• nugg.ad continues to lead the way for data protection
• EU OBA Framework: More transparency, information and improved decision making for users

Berlin – nugg.ad, Europe’s leading specialist in target group marketing, has been awarded the EDAA Trust Seal by ePrivacyconsult GmbH to recognise its exemplary Online Behavioral Advertising practices. The European Digital Advertising Alliance (EDAA) is focused on the voluntary self-regulation of the digital advertising sector in terms of usage-based online advertising. nugg.ad was one of only a very few online companies that were certified for their implementation of the EU OBA framework initiative, which aims to ensure the highest standards of data protection. It is therefore clear that targeting and data protection do not necessarily have to be mutually exclusive, but can be compatible if used in a considered, careful manner. nugg.ad now holds two data protection certifications: Alongside the EDAA Trust Seal, nugg.ad has also been awarded the European Privacy Seal – ’EuroPriSe’ by independent data protection regulatory bodies.

The EU OBA framework is an initiative of the European digital industry that aims to increase transparency and information levels to enable internet users to make better decisions about online advertising. Throughout Europe, more than 200 companies have chosen to adapt to meet these guidelines. nugg.ad is one of the few companies that has already fulfilled the strictest standards, and has therefore been awarded certification.

“After this first successful certification, we want to see more and more follow. The OBA framework is a comprehensive European initiative for the digital advertising sector. Alongside ePrivacyseal, ePrivacyconsult has successfully brought another certification product to the market,” explains Prof. Dr. Christoph Bauer, Managing Partner at ePrivacyconsult GmbH.

Key to nugg.ad’s philosophy is transparency and clarification. With the nugg.ad Topic Monitor (available at http://mtm.nugg.ad) nugg.ad has introduced its own tool to help users get more information about how their data is used. nugg.ad has also offered an opt-out option since 2009, which enables users to immediately withdraw their permission regarding the use of their data at any time.

Christian Pfeiffer, Data Protection Officer at nugg.ad, is thrilled about the ePrivacyconsult GmbH certification: “Data protection is part of our DNA at nugg.ad. The fact that we have been awarded the EDAA Trusted Seal shows that we can implement strict guidelines like the EU OBA framework initiative hassle-free.”

nugg.ad uses only a minimal amount of data to determine relevant advertising content, and therefore ensures that it adheres to the strict European data protection standards. The data generated by the user’s surfing behaviour is recorded on the nugg.ad AG partner sites and stored on the cookie for a maximum period of 26 weeks. This decentralisation of data storage allows the user to retain full control over their data. nugg.ad also uses extensive pseudo-anonymisation processes to make identifying an individual user impossible.

About nugg.ad:
nugg.ad AG is the leading provider of target group marketing and supplier of brand engagement measurement in digital media. nugg.ad makes it possible for advertisers, media agencies and marketers to significantly increase the effectiveness of their ads by delivering them to more relevant target groups. Branding campaigns in particular can be implemented more efficiently in the display and video sectors, but also in the mobile sector. Furthermore, advertisers and website operators benefit from a substantiated analysis of their user groups, as well as targeting of relevant content. nugg.ad is opening up new potential with its intelligent data management solution. With this solution, highly-specific audiences are targeted effectively on the basis of intent data. In 2013, nugg.ad launched Programmatic Premium Solutions, a solution which combines automated marketing of premium inventory with reliable target group data to guarantee higher-quality, wider-ranging, more effective RTB premium campaigns. The unique approach of the Predictive Behavioural Targeting makes it possible to enrich simple usage data with survey data about socio-demographics, product interests and lifestyles. This process utilises predictions (statistical profiles) without using any data that can be traced to individual users. That is why nugg.ad was the first provider of targeting services to receive the Privacy Seal by the Independent Centre for Privacy Protection Schleswig-Holstein (ICPP). In Europe, the nugg.ad product is also certified with the European Privacy Seal, EuroPriSe. nugg.ad was awarded the “Red Herring 100 Europe“ and the “European Seal of E-Excellence“ in 2008.
