Former Interactive Head Jake McKenzie Named CEO
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Intermark Group, a full-service marketing and communications firm, has named former digital division head Jake McKenzie as its chief executive officer. He replaces William (Billy) Harvill, who led the Intermark Group since 1992 and will continue to serve as chairman of the board, as the agency ends a successful year.
McKenzie joined Intermark Group in 1997 and took control of the agency’s interactive division, developing marketing strategies for clients such as Krispy Kreme Doughnuts, Mohawk Industries, Toyota, Chevrolet Local Marketing Associations and Office Furniture USA. The historically traditional agency’s incorporation of these interactive solutions led to the addition of new clients and added revenues in 2009, despite the downturn in the economy. Intermark Group provides both traditional and digital solutions to clients through advertising, media planning and purchasing, public relations, interactive, film and production.
McKenzie believes Intermark’s ability to provide the services found in both a traditional agency and a digital agency benefits their clients and, in turn, the agency. “I came from the digital side of our business and have seen interactive marketing become a major component in campaigns, but it would be wrong to assume that a digital agency can provide all the answers,” said McKenzie. “The emergence of agencies that focus on either traditional or digital marketing solutions for clients is detrimental to clients and divisive to our industry. In order to best serve our clients in the future, all agencies must become hybrid agencies, capable of providing multi-disciplined, complementary marketing and advertising strategies that achieve the clients’ goals. At Intermark Group, we have found that our clients like having all of their marketing efforts – from both a digital and traditional perspective – being handled by one team and all marching in the same direction.”
Intermark Group has recently renovated a moved to a 40,000-square-foot historical building in downtown Birmingham, Ala. It provides space for the agency’s more than 120 employees with room to grow. “We’ve seen an increase in profits this year and have plans for expansion in the future,” said McKenzie. “Traditional or digital is no longer a choice; it’s a hybrid combination we have achieved at Intermark.”
