Southwest Advertising Hall of Fame 2011 Class Announced

AAF Dallas to Host Induction Luncheon in October

DALLAS – The Tenth District of the American Advertising Federation (AAF), encompassing Arkansas, Louisiana, Oklahoma and Texas, is proud to announce the Southwest Advertising Hall of Fame’s 2011 class of inductees. Each of the seven distinguished honorees has made significant contributions in the advertising industry and in his or her community.

AAF Dallas will host an inductee ceremony and luncheon recognizing the fourth class of the Southwest Advertising Hall of Fame on Monday, October 10 at 11:30 a.m. in Dallas at the Doubletree Campbell Centre on North Central Expressway. 2011 inductees include:

Stan & Barbara Levenson of Dallas are both currently CEO’s at The Levenson Group and have had nearly 50 years of working together in the field. Stan and Barbara Levenson were among the first to integrate marketing communications and their significant impact on the industry is exemplified by their extraordinary roster of long-time client relationships, including Paramount Pictures and Warner Bros. pictures since the 1960s.

Jean William Brown (deceased) of Houston founded Jean William Brown and Associates. He served as chairman and CEO at Rives, Dyke & Company and led them to numerous awards. He mentored hundreds of young professionals, served as President of the American Advertising Federation and volunteered in the community.

Ron Chapman of Dallas is the retired Program Director, Music Director, Promotions Director and Morning Personality KLIF, KVIL, KLUV Dallas. A Texas legend, he has been an on-air radio personality in Dallas/Fort Worth for 50 years and was the most listened to morning radio personality in the history of the Southwest. Ron Chapman has contributed to the betterment of society throughout his career, using his unique talents and his own money to champion many worthy causes in addition to emceeing countless charity events.

Robert D. Brown (deceased) of Dallas was the founder of Berry Brown, one of Dallas’ premier mid-tier advertising agencies. He began his career with 25 years at Tracy Locke Advertising, eventually serving as VP and COO. He also served San Antonio’s humanitarian and charitable efforts and volunteered following retirement.

Amon G. Carter of Fort Worth (deceased) was the Creator and Publisher of the Fort Worth Star-Telegram and one of the founding fathers of the American Advertising Federation-Fort Worth. Carter parlayed his money and power into celebrity as a national spokesman for Fort Worth and West Texas. Among his many honors, Texas Christian University in Fort Worth named its football stadium Amon G. Carter Stadium to recognize Carter’s contributions.

Lyle Metzdorf (deceased) of Houston founded Metzdorf, Inc. where his main client was Blue Bell Creameries. He started his first agency in the early 1960s and later served as VP and associative creative director of Marshalk. He produced many pro bono ads for community organizations and mentored art directors and writers.

William Neale of Dallas was President and CEO of Point Communications, one of Dallas’ top ten agencies, whose clients include Collins Radio and Domino’s Pizza. At Tracy Locke he served as art director, VP, manager of the agency’s creative department, and a member of the board of directors. He has been involved in philanthropic endeavors, such as starting part of the Carroll Shelby Children’s Foundation.

The Southwest Advertising Hall of Fame was created by the Tenth District of the American Advertising Federation to honor men and women from the region who have distinguished themselves. Inductees need not be a member of the AAF Tenth District. Inductees will automatically be nominated for the National Advertising Hall of Fame.

“The honorees have differentiated themselves by their exemplary careers, the betterment of advertising and its reputation and their volunteer efforts outside the workplace,” said Randy Kemp, co-chair, Southwest Advertising Hall of Fame.
