Veteran Technologists James Barrese, CTO of PayPal, and Allan Leinwand, VP and CTO of Cloud Platform and Infrastructure for ServiceNow, to Join Marin Software Board of Directors
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – Marin Software (NYSE: MRIN), provider of a leading Revenue Acquisition Management platform for advertisers and agencies, today announced James Barrese and Allan Leinwand have joined the company’s Board of Directors.
“James and Allan have over five decades of combined experience leading teams at high-growth technology companies. Their expertise will be invaluable to Marin as we expand our platform to meet the needs of the world’s leading advertisers and agencies,” said Chris Lien, founder and chief executive officer at Marin Software. “Their deep knowledge of technology infrastructure, architecture, analytics, and cloud computing — combined with their entrepreneurial and executive leadership experience — will be a great addition to Marin’s Board of Directors.”
Barrese is a technologist with more than 25 years of experience spanning the military, the academic world, business consulting, and enterprise platforms and infrastructure. He currently serves as CTO of PayPal, and previously spent nearly 10 years in executive technology roles at eBay, where he was most recently VP of Technology. Earlier in his career, he was VP of engineering at Charitableway, a manager at Andersen Consulting, and programmer in the Materials Science Department at Stanford University. He got his start in technology with the Signal Corps in the U.S. Army. He holds a BS in Mechanical Engineering from Stanford University.

Leinwand is currently VP and CTO, Cloud Platform and Infrastructure of ServiceNow. His career spans over 25 years in the technology industry, including roles as CTO, founder, venture capitalist, and professor. Previously, Leinwand was CTO – Infrastructure of Zynga, where he oversaw all areas of cloud computing infrastructure for the social gaming company. Leinwand was also the founder and CEO of the software-defined networking company Vyatta, which was acquired by Brocade in 2012. He has also served as a venture partner at Panorama Capital and an operating partner at JP Morgan Partners, where he led investments in infrastructure and networking companies. He was also co-founder, president, and CEO of Proficient Networks, and earlier served as CTO and VP of engineering at Telegis Networks and Digital Island. Leinwand spent seven years at Cisco, where he was most recently manager of consulting engineering. He started his career as an Internet engineer at HP. He has been an adjunct professor at the University of California Berkeley, where he taught courses on computer network management and design. He is an expert in internetworking design and implementation and holds a patent in data routing. He holds a BS in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Boulder.
